Portland native and entrepreneur Jason Lee quietly opened the Broadway Cigar Company in the Hollywood District, and on January 1, it became one of the very few places where smoking indoors is legally allowed. He has now outfitted the shop with a walk-in humidor, shoe shine stand, selection of rare cigars (including pre-embargo Cubans), and the roomy centerpiece: an elegant smoking lounge, complete with 25 foot ceilings, ambient lighting, complimentary local beverages, flat-screen TVs, free wireless internet and a welcoming atmosphere.
Yesterday, Saturday March 28, Lee threw a party at the shop with events, cigar rolling demonstrations, complimentary liquor tastings, free BBQ, raffles and more. Our spies were out in force yesterday and into the evening for the Grand Opening Event. They reported back and said "Where there's smoke, there's fire and Broadway Cigar Company's smokin' haute baby!"
The shop apparently is outfitted to "The Nines" and features a walk-in humidor, aged cigars, hard-to-get brands and a wide selection. Lee stocks the rare Padron Aniversario's, both 1964 and 1926, personal favorites of his. The large parking lot and easy access off I-84 appeal to cigar aficionados around the metro area. The indoor smoking lounge, open to the public, has 50-inch flat screen TVs and lighters, cutters and beverages. Lee's shoeshine stand is open on Saturdays. He designed the shop to balance such vintage style with modern amenities. Classic magazines and repurposed barber chairs blend perfectly with cable television and a climate-controlled lounge with low, atmospheric lighting.
